As his phone went offline for several hours, his nephew who he had spoken to at 19h38 went to look for him and was found today dead and tied up apparently assassinated.
It is not clear who killed this active critic of Rwandan government but since his body discovery, rumours in Johannesburg are pointing fingers at Kigali for the killing. The South African authorities are investigating the murder.
Colonel Patrick Karegeya was a key figure in the Rwandan opposition and a founding member of the Rwanda National Congress. Rwandan opposition key figures have been a target in South Africa and other parts of the world. This follows the failed assassination of his colleague General Kayumba Nyamwasa. He survived two assassination attempts in Johannesburg on June 18, 2010 and June 20, 2010.
Investigations have found evidence of the involvement of Rwandan Intelligence operatives but Rwanda authorities have always denied any involvement and accused Patrick Karegeya and Faustin Nyamwasa of trying to create chaos in Rwanda in a bid to overthrow the current government....
